Short CV

Jan van der Ploeg studied Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology at Leiden University. Het wrote his MA thesis on resource conflicts between nomadic pastoralists and peasants in the North of Cameroon, based on eight months field work in 1999-2000. 

From 2001 to 2007 he was the programme coordinator of the Cagayan Valley Program on Environment and Development (CVPED), the joint research programme of Leiden University and Isabela State University in North Luzon, the Philippines. In that capacity he supervised Dutch and Filipino graduate students in the field. Jan participated in several rapid biodiversity surveys in Luzon (the northern Sierra Madre and Apayao) and Kalimantan (Gunung Lumut).

He currently leads a research and conservation programme for the critically Philippine crocodile (the CROC project) and has just finished his PhD dissertation on community-based wildlife management.
