Jasmijn Rana is a cultural anthropologist, with a special interest and expertise in gender, sports and diversity. She teaches the BA-courses Onderzoeksvoorbereiding, Veldwerk NL and Globalization at the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology, and Qualitative Methods at Leiden University College. She also supervises BA and MA theses.

Jasmijn studied cultural anthropology at University of Amsterdam where she graduated in 2009 on a MA thesis on beauty practices among high class women in Casablanca, Morocco. She is currently finalizing her PhD thesis at Freie Universit├Ąt Berlin, titled 'Young Muslim Women in Kickboxing: Learning and Belonging'.

Next to her teaching activities and dissertation, she works as a freelancer in the cultural sector on projects on youth, diversity, urbanity and intangible heritage.
