PhD Course work consists of four kinds of seminars: The general PhD course Projects and Practices of Anthropologists (PPA); The annual PhD Seminar; The Writing seminar Bring your Thesis and Masterclasses.
The programme is organised in line with the hree thematic research specialisations of the institute. Per year three modules are organised in which major concerns within these research areas will be dealt with.
A two-day seminar in June in which PhD candidates present a paper on a particular theme. Topics of previous editions: Ethics in research, Figures and Ways of telling. We organise the seminar together with other Dutch universities and institutes and invite renowned international scholars to act as discussant.
This seminar provides PhD candidates with the opportunity to discuss the structure of the thesis and particular writing problems. We want to stimulate reflection upon the intricate connection between textual strategies and theoretical approaches. The seminar is organized on a bi-monthly basis.
Often the institute hosts international guests who are willing to give a seminar. The masterclass can be dedicated to a book the international scholar recently published, or a field of expertise the PhD candidate can benefit from.
