Paul Wouters is currently programme leader at the KNAW institute ‘Virtual Knowledge Studio for the Humanities and Social Sciences’ and Professor of Knowledge Dynamics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Paul Wouters has published about the history of the Science Citation Index and about information systems in science.

His background closely matches the field of activity of CWTS, where the Science Citation Index is one of the most important bibliometric tools. Besides being programme leader of the KNAW institute mentioned above, Paul Wouters was also director of the ‘Erasmus Studio’ and visiting professor of Cybermetrics at the University of Wolverhampton in the UK.

Prof. A.F.J. van Raan, director of CWTS until September 1st, remains affiliated with CWTS as a professor focusing on research and applications.
