Leiden World Ranking
- About Ranking of Science
- The basic rule in Ranking of Science (data years 2000-2007 for Europe and 2003-2007 for the World) is comparison of entities (e.g. research groups, departments, universities) with similar entities. E.g., in teaching, first-year students have to pass first-year exams, we do not compare them with fourth-year students.
- Yet, some ranking systems focusing on research tend to be unfair, as they compare entities with a different 'mix' of disciplines, or output of young researchers with the lifetime work of older and experienced scientists (as is the case for the Hirsch-Index).
The CWTS "Leiden Ranking" aims at comparison of research institutions with impact measures that take the differences in disciplines into account.
