Research assessment

What is your position in the scientific field? For many scientific institutions and research intensive companies the question of positioning in the scientific field may be of life importance.

What is your position in the scientific field ?

CWTS has developed a number of standardized methods and techniques to answer this and related questions. We can zoom in, or out, to different levels: from individual (i.e., assessing publications of applicants to a scientific position) to institutional to (super)national.

How to compare researchers

As the publication characteristics of different scientific fields show great variations in different averages of numbers of publications per year per field, average numbers of citations per publication, numbers of pages, citations and so on, we calculate these averages per scientific field and per journal. This enables us to compare the publication results of scientist with those of their peers; instead of comparing apples with pears.

Verification of CWTS-collected publication output

CWTS uses advanced clustering techniques to identify the correct publications related to a particular scientist. However, mistakes are inevitable: misspellings, different initials of authors or different authors with an identical name working in the same field or institute, do occur. Therefore, we allow the scientists involved in a research-assessment project to verify their CWTS collected publications online (in a protected environment).
