The Chair on Adoption Studies was established at Leiden University, Centre for Child and Family Studies, in 2000 by Wereldkinderen (Worldchildren), The Hague. The inaugural speech took place at the 1st of February, 2002, entitled 'Adoptie, een optie voor kind en gezin?' ('Adoption, an option for child and family?').
