Historical roots of educational thinking

The development of educational theory and advice does not take place in a cultural-historical vacuum.

Therefore, it is important to analyse the historical embeddedness of both theoretical innovations and practical advice. Educational ideas (e.g., the idea that intervention in infancy has long-lasting effects on development) often have a long history in European educational thinking.

It is important to trace the origin of these ideas for both historical and theoretical reasons.
