Jarla Pijper successfully completed the research master’s programme ‘Developmental Psychopathology in Education and Child Studies’in 2012. Her thesis focuses on executive functions and autism traits in children with sex chromosome trisomies. During her matster’s studies she did internships at the Rijndam Rehabilitation Centre in Rotterdam and at the Ambulatorium of Leiden University. She has acquired much experience with neuropsychological assessment.
In 2012 she started as a teaching and research assistant at the Institute of Education and Child Studies at Leiden University. In 2013 she also started as a PhD candidate at the department of Adolescent Development at Utrecht University.
Jarla Pijper’s PhD research project is a collaboration between the Institute of Education and Child Studies at Leiden and the department of Adolescent Development at Utrecht University. The study focuses on the neurobiological and neuropsychological factors that can predict treatment success in boys with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder (CD). Specifically, Jarla Pijper studies the nature of empathy dysfunctions in boys with ODD or CD.
