Quality of time-out facilities
Recent numbers in the Netherlands show a large increase in use of time-out facilities, i.e., special educational services intended for maladjusted adolescents of secondary school age who have dropped out due to severe problem behaviour. Studies on referrals to out-of-school facilities in the Netherlands however, still report invalid decision-making procedures and a lack of well presented and justified evidence. Do teachers and schools refer students that are really different or do they set random examples?
