After his graduation in psychology Cornelis J. de Brabander conducted several investigations at the Leiden Interdisciplinary Centre for Educational Research. In 1981 he was appointed as assistant professor of the Department of Educational Studies, Leiden University, where he finished his doctoral dissertation in 1990. In 2010 he became associate professor at the Ruud de Moor Centre, Open University of the Netherlands. Being retired now, he is visiting professor both the Department of Educational Studies, Leiden University and at the Welten Institute, Open University of the Netherlands.
Main topic is motivation (self-responsible learning). Other topics are ict applications in education, educational beliefs of teachers, more specifically subject beliefs of teachers in secondary education, personal epistemology, and professional development of teachers.
