Jolien Mouw received her Bachelor of Education in 2009, and she continued to work as a primary school teacher during her premaster. In June 2012, Jolien graduated Cum Laude from the Research Master Educational Sciences; Learning in Interaction at Utrecht University. During her research master, Jolien developed a strong interest in research of the cognitive aspects underlying effective and interactive learning of elementary school children.

In December 2012, she started her PhD-project at Leiden University.

Together with Prof. Van den Broek, Dr. Van Leijenhorst and Dr. Saab, Jolien will examine the role of perspective taking during reading processes. In addition, research into the potential of using a 3D game-like environment and interactive storytelling to promote children’s reading comprehension is part of her PhD project.
