In September 2014, I was appointed to be assistant professor at the department of Education and Child Studies. My research is part of the research program ‘Developing Educational Practices’ of the Centre for Educational Studies.

I obtained master degrees in Social Psychology (2006) and Sociology (2009) from the University of Groningen. In 2014, I finished my dissertation at the same university. My dissertation focused on effects of learning environments on developments in motivation of students attending vocational secondary education.

CV Kim Stroet (2014)

Research

How is students’ motivation affected by their learning environments? In my current research, I aim to gain understanding of how students make sense of teacher-student interactions and how this affects their motivation. For this purpose, amongst others, I work with ‘Self-Determination Theory’ ( Deci & Ryan, 1985; Ryan & Deci, 2000). Besides, I am interested in questions on adequate implementation of educational interventions aimed at fostering student motivation. In my research, I combine quantitative analyses with qualitative analysis of, for example, videotaped teacher-student interactions and interviews.
