Elise Swart finished the bachelor program ‘Learning Problems and Impairments’ (2009-2012) and the research master program ‘Developmental Psychopathology in Education and Child Studies’ (2012-2013) at Leiden University. She specialized in learning problems and impairments and finished with a master thesis, titled “Technology-enhanced stories as word learning support for children at risk: A meta-analysis”, investigating the effects of technology and storybooks on vocabulary development.

Since January 2014 Elise is working as a PhD candidate at the department of Learning Problems and Impairments and conducts research on attention, reading motivation and reading comprehension under supervision of Prof. A. G. Bus.

Elise’s research focuses on the genetic and neurobiological factors that could influence reading motivation and performance. Additionally, she investigates the effects of multimedia features, interactivity and feedback on reading motivation and performance in both young and older children.
