Combating Bullying in Schools by Means of Self-Affirmation Training
Given the wide range of negative outcomes, and the large number of children affected, there can be no doubt that bullying in schools needs to be addressed.
Yet, schools cope with curriculum overload, and because of this may not implement anti-bullying interventions. A short yet effective intervention may lead to more schools that implement an anti-bullying intervention, thus positively affecting the lives of their students. We will develop, implement and test a short self-affirmation program as an anti-bullying intervention. We are specifically interested in self-affirmation because it can be used to create short interventions, which have proven to be effective in improving school results, increasing prosocial behavior and helping people deal with stress.
