The NHL offers a wide range of student programs and workplacement programs are part in the curriculum. The diversity of students with their own history,interest and career path, stimulates tailor-made education, the NHL invests in an extensive network and exchange of knowledge with school organisations .The project can profit from these experiences. Teacher training is organised for primary, lower- and upper-secondary level and for higher education. The network of the teacher training institute  with schools is, in the eyes of the Dutch Ministry of Education, an example of good practice for the country. Much energy is invested in that relationship. There is for instance an exchange of staff , schoolteachers are partners in assessments and they have an input in constructing the teacher training curricula.

Koos Koopman works as a senior lecturer at the Institute for teacher education and communication (IEC) of the NHL. Cooperation with schools is necessary in the project, especially the transformation towards everyday practice is an attractive skill in the project. He has been working with school for many years. As a mentor and trainer he is able to stimulate competence development, he knows the characteristics of the school as an organisation and how to influence and change it, in order to encourage the use of innovative products and instruments. Because the initial training takes into focus the diversity of the student population, he is able not only to discover and accept differences but also to stimulate the use of it , he is an experienced mentor of beginning teachers and trainer of schoolteams. This partner introduced competence-based teacher training in a way that teacher students are stimulated to reflect on their own needs and to take action in line with the outcome of it.
