The Vrije Universiteit Brussel is a university that offers high quality education and research in the Brussels Capital Region. The Educational Sciences Department has expertise in a number of specific areas such as educational technology, curriculum development, schoolmanagement, and teachers’ professional development. Teachers’ professional development is precisely the area of expertise wherein the proposed project fits. Several staff members of the department have been involved in research on, and training in initial teacher education, induction and continuing professional development for teachers. They have been involved in mentor training and in projects focussing on the relationship between school management, school culture and teachers’ professional development.

Prof.dr. Nadine Engels is head of the Educational Sciences Department at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She has been involved, as promoter and researcher, in several research, development and education projects related to the topic of the proposed project. She has 22 years of teaching experience in initial teacher education and in service learning of teachers. She has been chairperson of the Research and Development Centre In Service Learning within the association for teacher education in Europe. She has experience as co-ordinator of a successful European Community programme.
