Janet van Klink writes in her thesis “Media In Bed With Our Tough Guys” that embedded journalists often do not offer the complete picture. According to her the journalists are unable to write freely and independently. The embedded journalists have a more positive way of writing about the mission, use one-sided information sources and the military actions are less often placed in a bigger context. These journalists focus on the operation itself whereas independent journalists more often focus on the violence and politics.
