Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences awarded to a Political Scientist

Elinor Ostrom, professor of Political sciences at Indiana University, was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. She shares the award with Oliver E. Williamson.

In 2005 Ostrom gave a lecture on Rational choice theory and Social dilemmas in Leiden during the Honours Class organised by Political Science and Public Administration.
Elinor Ostrom, who studied Political Sciences at UCLA, was awarded the prize for “her analysis of economic governance, especially the commons". She is the first woman who receives the Nobel Memorial Prize for Economic Sciences.
