Vuković accepted to Young Scientists Summer Programme

Siniša Vuković, alumnus of the MA in International Relations & Diplomacy and currently a PhD candidate at the Institute for Political Science at Leiden University, has been accepted to the prestigious Young Scientists Summer Programme of the IIASA in Vienna with his research proposal entitled: Mediation strategies in multiparty mediation processes - what to do when there is a conflict of interests among the mediators? His research supervisor will be prof. I. William Zartman, from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, who is also a member of the Steering Committee of Processes of International Negotiations (PIN) at IIASA.

The NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research) awarded him with a full scholarship which will cover his fees as well as his living and travel expenses.

The Young Scientists Summer Programme (YSSP) is an annual 3-month programme which offers research opportunities to talented young researchers whose interests correspond with IIASA’s ongoing research on issues of global environmental, economic and social change. The programme started in 1977 and hosted 1462 participants from 73 countries.

The programme provides participants with the opportunities to:

  • advance their research under the direct supervision of an experienced IIASA scientist, and at the same time contribute to IIASA’s ongoing scientific agenda;
  • broaden their research interests by working in IIASA’s interdisciplinary and international research environment;
  • build contacts with IIASA’s worldwide network of collaborators and with other YSSP fellows.

The YSSP offers an interdisciplinary programme of lectures, discussion groups and seminars given by IIASA staff, Institute Scholars and invited speakers (including Nobel and Schumpeter Laureates). The programme offers a wide range of scientific events, including both social and natural sciences.

At the end of the programme Vuković has the opportunity to present and publish his research.
