My current research is about the origin of federalism. The debate about a federal system has been getting loud not only in democratic countries such as the United Kingdom, Belgium, etcetera, but also in other countries that are involved in internal conflicts. To understand the origin of federalism and its emergence all around the world, many cases have been analysed, such as Belgium, Spain, South Africa, Iraq, and Germany. In addition,  my research focuses on the reasons for the failure of some federations and the success of others.
