Isabelle Duyvesteyn is Special Chair in Strategic Studies, sponsored by the Strategic Studies Foundation. The focus of the special Chair is on international security in a broad sense, with special attention for the role of military force as instrument of statecraft. Isabelle Duyvesteyn is also associate professor at the Department of History of International Relations at the Humanities Faculty, Utrecht University. Her research interests include military and security aspects of international affairs, terrorism, insurgency, humanitarian intervention and the use of coercion as instrument of foreign policy. Prof Duyvesteyn is a member of the Netherlands Advisory Council for International Affairs/Committee on Peace and Security and member of the editorial board of Small Wars and Insurgencies.
