Karin Koole is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science. Previously she obtained a MSc degree in Social Research (specialisation Political Science) at the VU University Amsterdam.

Her research interests include political decision-making, women’s movements, women’s issues like abortion and maternal employment, and the role of religion, from a comparative perspective.

Her PhD research focuses on the influence of women’s movements on political decision-making processes, with special attention to decision-making about abortion policy and maternal employment policy, and the role of contextual factors like governments, religion, and female legislators.
