Tomas Cirhan is a PhD candidate in Political Science at the Institute of Political Science of Leiden University. University of Aberdeen graduate, he received a MSc in Globalization with commendation in 2013. His master's dissertation research was a comparative study of differences in integration between Czech and Polish migrants in the United Kingdom, supervised by Dr Christopher Kollmeyer. As a member of department of Sociology, he has been involved in teaching on a Globalization interdisciplinary course as a postgraduate tutor. He holds a BA with honours from Robert Gordon University, where he completed a research focused on standardization in workplaces and application of McDonaldization theory, supervised by Dr Donncha Maroon.

In his present studies, his main research interests are new anti-establishment parties, post-communist party systems and rise of populist politics in central eastern Europe. In his current doctoral research, supervised by Prof. Petr Kopecky and Dr. Maria Spirova, he focuses on explaining success of new Czech anti-establishment party called ANO, adopting a party organizational approach to determine factors responsible for repeated electoral success of this party. In his future studies and career, he aspires to further study post-communist parties and politics.
