Dr. Niels van Willigen is a lecturer of international relations. He studied history at Leiden University. Having completed his studies in 2001, he did research on the ‘European Security and Defense Identity’ as a part of NATO’s research fellowship programme. From 2002 to 2007 he has worked as a PhD-candidate at the Institute of Political Science of Leiden University. In 2009 he completed his dissertation on the international administrations in Bosnia & Herzegovina and Kosovo. In the academic year 2014-2015 Dr. Van Willigen teaches introductory courses on international politics and international organisations and a BA-thesis project on international arms control and disarmament. Dr. Van Willigen is also a Senior Analyst in the Peace & Security Section of the Global Governance Institute.
The research interests of Dr. Niels van Willigen include theories of international relations, foreign policy analysis, security studies (more in particular peace operations, arms control and European security) and international law.
