Orientation Day for international bachelor's students in Psychology
The atmosphere was filled with nervous excitement as students participated in icebreaker activities and got to know their future classmates. On 28 August 2013 the Orientation Day for the first cohort of the International Bachelor in Psychology (IBP) was held at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences in Leiden.
After Corry Donner (IBP coordinator) opened the event and Arjaan Wit, the Institute of Psychology’s Director of Studies, welcomed the 90 or so students present and encouraged them to reach out beyond their studies and become involved in the Dutch culture.
The programme’s Study Advisor, Jennifer Martin provided more information about the structure of the programme and answered some of the students’ burning questions. Dr Marian Verhallen was also in attendance and spoke to the students about the Leiden University’s Honours College Programme. The Admissions Office gave a presentation answering students’ questions about their final steps in becoming Leiden University students. To end the more structured part of the day, Mieke du Plessis, the Student Ambassador for the IBP programme gave a motivational talk on her experiences as a international student at Leiden University.
During the Information Market students had the opportunity to speak to representatives from various areas of university life such as the Admissions Office, Labyrint, Honours College, PopCorner, Plexus, and the International Student Network (ISN). Each student had their photograph taken with a name card they made. Finally students were given a full tour of the faculty building to orientate them for classes starting on 2 September and get a feeling for the building they will be spending much of their time during the next three years.
