Marc Leonard Molendijk (1974) completed his Bachelors in 2006. He completed a Research Master and a Clinical Psychology Master in 2008. During his Masters he studied, together with Professor Philip Spinhoven and Dr Arnold van Emmerik ( Leiden University), the word use of patients with a personality disorder. His thesis on this subject eventually got published in Behaviour Research and Therapy (2009). In 2008 he started as a PhD student at Leiden University. Under the guidance of Bernet Elzinga, Brenda Penninx, and Philip Spinhoven he studies the neurobiology of depression and anxiety and he does so by focusing (mainly) on the role of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF ) protein levels and BDNF genotype. June the third (2014) he received his PhD (cum laude). His interests includes the neurobiology of depression and the relation between mental health, ageing and chronic illness.
