Anneloes Maij MSc, R&D Engineer in the field of training with the National Aerospace Laboratory, on board games and the ‘comprehensive approach’
Tuesday 6 March 2012,  13:00-14:00 hrs., 1A22

Anneloes Maij: 'One of my first projects for NLR was the development of a serious game in cooporation with TNO and T-Xchange. Our client was CIMIC, a NATO accredited Centre of Excellence, that trains both military and civil personnel working in operational environments, such as a war zone. Lately, most innovative serious game designers develop games for use on PCs or tablets. We wanted to be even more innovative, so we decided to make a serious board game. The game had one main learning goal: to make sure that trainees understand the complexities and applications of the ‘comprehensive approach'. During the colloquium I will discuss what we do at NLR and what our department (Training, Simulation and Operator Performance) focuses on. I will also discuss the development of a serious game and what an applied cognitive psychologist can contribute to such a game'.

Anneloes Maij (1976) received her Master’s Degree in Applied Cognitive Psychology in 2010 from the University of Leiden. She currently holds the position of R&D Engineer in the field of training with the National Aerospace Laboratory. Anneloes worked earlier as a recruiter for Connexxion and headed the Parachuting Office of the Royal Netherlands Aeronautical Association.
