"Emotional functioning is mainly influenced by the social environment. Therefore, various cultural influences may affect emotional diversity."
Sheida Novin obtained her PhDfrom the unit Developmental and Educational Psychology of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.
She obtained her master’s degree in developmental psychology from Leiden University and focused on cultural differences in children’s emotion experience and expression. She successfully applied for a 4-year “Mozaïek” grant from NWO.
Her current research concerns Moroccan-Dutch adolescents’ emotional functioning, with the emphasis on emotion knowledge, emotion experience and expression in various social situations. Furthermore, emotional functioning and its relationship with ethnic identification, and with social, psychological, and academic functioning are at focus. Sheida supervises a third year bachelor’s project for the unit and is involved in the course social and emotional development.
