Biography
Welmer Molenmaker graduated from the Research Master's program at the University of Amsterdam in 2011. The general emphasis during his master was on social psychology, cognitive neuroscience and sport psychology. In his Master Thesis he investigated perseverance and the execution of athletic performance affect each other because of a depleted self-regulatory strength. Currently he is working as a PhD Candidate at the department of Social and Organizational Psychology at Leiden University under the supervision of Eric van Dijk and Erik de Kwaadsteniet. The subject of his project is the willingness to punish or reward in social dilemmas.
Research
Negative sanctions (punishments) and positive sanctions (rewards) can be highly effective means to promote cooperation in social dilemmas. However, the wilingness to sanction is partly related to considerations of effectiveness. Welmer's current research focuses on the motives to punish or reward. There is special attention for experienced and anticipated emotions.
