My field of interest is the role of life-purpose and meaning, attentional processes, life-attitude and motivation in well-being and psycho pathology. My research concerns interventions, both in educational and therapeutical contexts, aimed at training the capacity to form meaningful connections to others and leading a meaningful life. I engage in theoretical development on these terrains as well as (experimental) research. Coping with loss and organ-donation are specific fields in which I have applied my expertise.
Within the Psychology Department, I develop and teach train-the-trainer Master courses: the Trainers Course Communication Skills, and Psychological Coaching in Life- and Life-Style Issues. I also coordinate and teach the second year BA course Interpersonal Professional Skills. Aside from that I am the Internship Coordinator for Clinical Psychology and furthermore involved in ICT development at the Dept. of Psychology.
Aside from my work at Leiden University, I teach at the School for Strategic Management at Utrecht University, an I have my own training- and coaching practice, aimed at managers and individuals that want to explore what they really want in life, and wonder how to go about making major steps in their (professional) lives. My work is primarily based on the Pulsar approach for durable change.
Mijn belangstellingsgebied is de rol van zingeving, aandachtsprocessen, levenshouding & motivatie in aetiologie en welzijn en psychopathologie. Daarbij doe ik onderzoek naar interventies die gericht zijn op het rechtstreeks trainen van het vermogen tot zingeving in onderwijs en therapeutische conteksten. Naast onderzoek houd ik me bezig met theorievorming op dit gebied en begeleid ik scripties en stages daarover. Andere terreinen waarop ik onderzoek deed zijn verliesverwerking en orgaandonatie.
Binnen de Sectie Klinische & Gezondheidspsychologie verzorg ik train-de-trainer onderwijs in het Masters keuzevak Trainers Course Communication Skills(TCCS) en ben als ontwikkelaar verbonden aan het 2e jaars BA blok Interpersoonlijke Beroepsvaardigheden. Van beide ben ik tevens coördinator. Tenslotte ben ik stage-coordinator van de sectie Klinische en Gezondheids Psychologie.
Naast mijn universitaire werk ben ik als docent verbonden aan de Leergang Strategisch Management van de Universiteit Utrecht, en heb ik een eigen trainings- en coachingspraktijk gebaseerd op toegepaste essentiële psychologie, volgens de in Nederland ontwikkelde Pulsar methode.
