Mara van der Meulen is a PhD candidate in the department Developmental and Educational Psychology of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.
She obtained her research master’s degree in Developmental Psychology from Leiden University in 2014. During her internship she worked on the longitudinal Braintime study in the Brain & Development lab at Leiden University. She wrote her thesis about the neural and behavioural relationship between working memory, reading and mathematics.
In her PhD project, supervised by Prof. Dr. Eveline Crone and Prof. Dr. Rutger Engels and in collaboration with Michelle Achterberg, she will investigate the development of social competence and behavioural control in children. In this longitudinal project, Mara will focus on the neural correlates of prosocial behaviour. Her project is a part of the Leiden Consortium on Individual Development (L-CID), a collaboration between the department of Developmental and Educational Psychology and the Centre for Child and Family Studies at Leiden University.
