‘The association between sex hormones and white matter development might be vital to normal (or abnormal) behavioral maturation.’

Jiska is an assistant professor in the Developmental and Educational Psychology unit of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.

She obtained her PhD at the University Medical Center in Utrecht, under supervision of Prof. Hilleke Hulshoff Pol, Prof. René Kahn and Prof. Dorret Boomsma (VU, Amsterdam). She investigated the influence of pubertal hormones, genetic and environmental factors on brain structure in early pubertal children. Jiska also worked as a post-doc at the Department of Experimental Psychology (Utrecht University) with Dr. Jack van Honk. In collaboration with Cape Town University, she conducted a research project on brain volumes and white matter integrity in patients with amygdala calcification (Urbach Wiethe disease).

In 2010, Jiska received a Veni grant from NWO, to investigate the neural substrates of impulsive behavior. Specifically, she will examine whether the association between sex hormones and white matter integrity can predict (abnormal) impulsivity.
