Neeltje van den Bedem

Neeltje van den Bedem is a PhD student in the unit Developmental and Educational Psychology of the Institute of Psychology at Leiden University.

She obtained her Master’s degree in Education and Child studies at Utrecht University. She also holds a Bachelor in Sign Linguistics from the University of Amsterdam. Neeltje used to work as a family counselor in families with deaf children and children with Specific Language Impairment.

Her PhD project, supervised by Prof. Dr. Carolien Rieffe and in close collaboration with Petra van Alphen from Kentalis Academia, focuses on the social-emotional development of youngsters with Specific Language Impairment.  The aim of this longitudinal project is to understand which areas of the social and emotional development are influenced by communicative difficulties and to understand which factors may lead to psychopathology. The research project is funded by Nuts-Ohra.
