Welmer Molenmaker graduated from the Research Master’s program at the University of Amsterdam in 2011. The general emphasis during his master was on social psychology, cognitive neuroscience and sport psychology. In his Master Thesis he investigated whether perseverance and the execution of athletic performance affect each other due to a depleted self-regulatory strength. Currently Welmer is working as a PhD candidate at the Social and Organizational Psychology unit at Leiden University.

The topic of Welmer’s project is the willingness to reward cooperation and punish non-cooperation. Both sanction means can be highly effective in promoting cooperation. This does, however, not imply that people are also willing to use these sanctions. Welmer’s research aims to identify determinants of the willingness to administer sanctions.
