Changes in graduation procedure
-
The graduation procedure is as follows:
-
The student, the first and second supervisor will set an appointment for a meeting where the student will defend his/her thesis (appr. 30 minutes). This meeting will take place in a room in de Pieter de la Court-building. Based on this defense, the supervisors determine the grade of the thesis. Family and friends are not welcome during the defense.
-
The diplomas will be handed out four times a year in one of the rooms of the Academy Building, (Rapenburg 73, Leiden). Family and (close) friends are welcome to join you and be part of this festive ceremony.
-
Once graduated, there is the possibility to sign your name in ‘het zweetkamertje.’ In the 18th century the room was used as a waiting room for students awaiting their final exam. Traditionally, graduated students sign their names on the walls of the room. Certain procedures have to be followed to be allowed to sign your name in the room.
